1.1 openclaw security audit
openclaw security audit --deep
openclaw security audit --fix
logging.redactSensitive="tools",防止日誌洩漏敏感數據。 - 自動將
"discovery": {
"mdns": { "mode": "off" }
}
gateway:
trustedProxies:
- "127.0.0.1"
auth:
mode: token
token: ${OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN}
Tailscale
(Sandboxing)
3.1 Docker
ro(Read-Only): AI 可以讀取代碼但不能修改。
禁止將 /var/run/docker.sock 或主機的 .ssh 目錄掛載到沙盒中。
(Tool Policy)
- WhatsApp:
~/.openclaw/credentials/whatsapp/ - API Keys:
agents/<agentId>/agent/auth-profiles.json - Session Logs:
agents/<agentId>/sessions/*.jsonl
"tools": {
"deny": ["group:runtime", "gateway", "cron"]
}
啟用 tools.exec.ask: "always"。
Prompt Injection
(The Reader Pattern)

#OpenClaw Security Masterclass: Building a Highly Secure AI Agent Defense System (Ultimate Full Version)
Date: 2026-02-07 Author: JK Category: System Security, AI Agent, Hard Core Technology Teaching Version: v1.0 Masterclass
🌅 Introduction: When intelligence has execution ability
In the software-defined world of 2026, running an OpenClaw-type AI gateway essentially opens a remote operation window with autonomous permissions. It is both an efficiency multiplier and potentially the most insidious attack path. This guide aims to distill all of OpenClaw’s security features, threat models, and defense configurations into a set of executable “master-level” hardened manuals.
**Core principle: Permission control must always precede model intelligence. **
Chapter 1: Automated Auditing and Security Baseline
OpenClaw’s built-in auditing tools are your first line of diagnosis before doing any manual fine-tuning.
1.1 In-depth application of openclaw security audit
Don’t just run basic commands. For production environments, you should perform deep scans regularly:
openclaw security audit --deep
openclaw security audit --fix
The **--fix parameter implements the following key protections: **
- Set
groupPolicyto"allowlist"to prevent strangers from accidentally triggering the Bot in the group. - Forcibly enable
logging.redactSensitive="tools"to prevent logs from leaking sensitive data. - Automatically tighten
~/.openclawpermissions to700and configuration files to600.
Chapter 2: Network Boundaries and Identity Fortresses
Cyber exposure is the most immediate threat to AI agents.
2.1 Eliminate mDNS intelligence leaks
OpenClaw uses mDNS for device discovery by default. On an unsecured network, this will broadcast your cliPath and sshPort.
Hardening scheme: Set to "minimal" or "off".
"discovery": {
"mdns": { "mode": "off" }
}
2.2 Reverse proxy and trustedProxies protocol
If you put OpenClaw behind Nginx or Caddy, trusted proxies must be explicitly defined. This prevents attackers from bypassing local authentication checks by forging X-Forwarded-For headers.
gateway:
trustedProxies:
- "127.0.0.1"
auth:
mode: token
token: ${OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN}
2.3 Prioritize using Tailscale
Never bind a Gateway to 0.0.0.0. Using Tailscale Serve allows you to keep Gateway only listening on loopback while accessing the public network, and Tailscale handles end-to-end encryption and authentication.
Chapter 3: Physical isolation of the execution layer (Sandboxing)
Sandboxing is the core of OpenClaw’s prevention of “privilege escalation attacks”.
3.1 Mode and scope of Docker sandbox
mode: "all": Strongly recommended. Forces all conversations to be executed within the container.scope: "session": One container per session, this provides the highest level of isolation and prevents data contamination across sessions.
3.2 Data Sovereignty Control (workspaceAccess)
What the sandbox can see determines its risk limit.
none: AI works in an isolated temporary empty directory.ro(Read-Only): AI can read code but cannot modify it.rw: Only enabled in development session.
3.3 Strict mounting policy
Mounting the /var/run/docker.sock or host’s .ssh directories into the sandbox is prohibited. If the AI agent obtains Docker Socket permissions, it means that it has the ability to “jailbreak” and control the host machine.
Chapter 4: Permission Map and Tool Policy
4.1 Sensitive Credentials Map
You must protect the following paths just like the key:
- WhatsApp:
~/.openclaw/credentials/whatsapp/ - API Keys:
agents/<agentId>/agent/auth-profiles.json - Session Logs:
agents/<agentId>/sessions/*.jsonl
4.2 Least Privilege Toolset (PoLP)
Configure exclusive toolkits for different Agent roles. An Agent that processes Blog posts absolutely does not need the exec or process directive.
"tools": {
"deny": ["group:runtime", "gateway", "cron"]
}
4.3 God Circuit Breaker: Manual Approval
Enable tools.exec.ask: "always". Any system-level command must pop up a request on your mobile phone or terminal, and it can only be executed after you click “Approve”. This is the last line of defense against Prompt Injection.
Chapter 5: Model Security and Defense Prompt Injection
5.1 Security of model selection
Not all models are equally powerful at handling malicious instructions. We recommend command-hardened flagship models like Claude Opus 4.6 or GPT-5.3, which are much more resistant to injection attacks than lightweight models.
5.2 Handling untrusted content (The Reader Pattern)
When you ask AI to summarize a web page or read an external email, that’s “unstable content.”
Defense Mode: Uses a Read-Only Reader Agent. Let it generate the summary first, then pass the plain text summary to your Main Agent. Never allow an Agent capable of executing exec to directly read the original web page code.
Chapter 6: Emergency Response and Recovery Protocol
If you suspect that the system has been compromised, please immediately execute the “Trilogy of Violence”:
- Contain (cut off): Stop the Gateway process and cut off the external API connection.
- Rotate: Replace
gateway.auth.token, GitHub PAT, and all LLM API Keys. - Audit: Check the
~/.openclaw/agents/<id>/sessions/*.jsonllog to confirm the source of the attacker and the instructions attempted to be executed.
🏁 JK Reflection
Security is not a switch, it is a continuously evolving “building process.” In our pursuit of “Relentless pursuit of understanding,” we are actually racing against complexity.
When AI agents begin to have the ability to collaborate and make autonomous decisions, a tiny configuration vulnerability may be magnified in milliseconds. The truly powerful Creators are not those who write the most complex code, but those who can define the strongest boundaries.
What JK wants to ask you this time is: **When you give an AI agent the authority to “modify its own security configuration”, do you believe in the power of evolution, or are you writing the beginning of a disaster yourself? ** **If the security of AI can only be guaranteed through “physical isolation” and “manual review,” does this mean that there is still an insurmountable break in our chain of trust in “Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)”? **
