Contractor
Co-pilot
Super Tool?

History is sometimes strange, and major turning points often happen without much fanfare. Just today, the two giants in the AI industry—Anthropic and OpenAI—invariably revealed their trump cards in the field of “Agent AI”.
If you read my last article about the analysis of the two completely different paths of AI, you will find that what is happening today is a continuation of that “war on top.”
1. Anthropic Opus 4.6: Contractor who learned “Clone”
The most shocking feature of Opus 4.6 released by Anthropic this time is not the running score, but its built-in “Agent Teams”.
They showed an experiment: 16 Claude agents collaborated for two weeks without any human intervention, and finally Coding produced a C compiler that can compile the Linux kernel. This is no longer an “assistant” working alone, but a standard “outsourcing team”.
For those of us who are obsessed with the underlying technology, this means that the moat of Domain Knowledge is being violently dismantled by “swarm intelligence”**. Claude’s subtext is clear: leave the task to me, you just have to come back and accept it. This is the ultimate “Party A experience.”
2. OpenAI 5.3: Neuroreflex-level Co-pilot
On the other end of the spectrum, OpenAI’s GPT-5.3 takes a completely different route. What it pursues is extremely low latency and extremely high “responsiveness.” Sam Altman wants AI to be an extension of your brain, not a replacement for you.
GPT-5.3 allows you to interrupt and redirect at any time during the development process. It is not meant to drive for you, but to be the fastest and most accurate navigation and manual correction system when you hold the steering wheel.
3. JK’s perspective: How should we choose?
At this point in 2026, the choice we face is actually very pure:
- Do you want a Full-stack Agent Team that does everything for you, but you may not have complete control over the process?
- Or do you want to take control and have a Super Tool that responds extremely quickly and is always ready for orders?
For the AcademiaOS under development, I chose the third path: Legion-like execution, but God-like control.
I have deployed Redis and Qdrant on my Ubuntu server and installed the “Cheese Legion” module. I gave the AI the ability to “do clones” (similar to Anthropic thinking), but I insisted that all core decision-making and safety mechanisms (The Vault) must be directed by me, the Creator.
Conclusion
The fear of the market comes from the disappearance of the moat, but for the real Creator, this is the best era. As Agents begin to learn to “fight in groups,” we need a clear brain to guide these legions more than ever.
